Bot-detection startup Spur nabs $200M from Insight

Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has secured $200 million in funding led by Insight Partners. Founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, Spur has developed technology that helps organizations differentiate between genuine human users and increasingly sophisticated bot traffic. This capability addresses a growing challenge for enterprises as malicious bots become harder to detect and can pose significant security threats.

The company’s technology is particularly valuable as the volume and complexity of automated internet traffic surge. According to recent data from Cloudflare, bot traffic surpassed human internet usage for the first time in history by mid-2026, underscoring the escalating scale of the problem. Cloudflare’s CEO Matthew Prince highlighted the rapid increase in "agentic" bot traffic, which presents novel obstacles for cybersecurity teams striving to secure digital infrastructure.

Insight Partners’ managing director Thomas Krane emphasized that many organizations are operating with limited visibility into the underlying infrastructure of suspicious traffic. While they can monitor activities, distinguishing authentic users from malicious bots behind proxies, VPNs, and anonymization networks remains a blind spot. Spur’s solution aims to close this gap, enhancing security measures for enterprises by improving their ability to detect and mitigate bot-driven threats.

This substantial investment positions Spur Intelligence for accelerated growth at a time when cybersecurity challenges linked to automation and AI-driven threats are intensifying. As enterprises grapple with an evolving digital threat landscape, Spur’s expertise in bot detection and traffic verification stands to become a critical component of cybersecurity strategies worldwide.
