Yankees, Knicks RSNs Ditch Gotham App for DAZN Deal

The Yankees-controlled YES Network and James Dolan's MSG Networks have agreed to make the global sports streaming platform DAZN the exclusive digital home for their New York-area teams. Starting with the 2026–27 NBA and NHL seasons, DAZN will stream games for the Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, and Sabres, as well as provide 24/7 coverage of both networks for subscribers within the respective local markets. This partnership will replace the Gotham Sports app, a joint streaming venture launched by YES and MSG Networks in August 2024.

The move to DAZN marks a significant strategic shift aimed at broadening the digital audience for these regional sports networks. Since launching the Gotham Sports app, their streaming audience increased by 33% in 2026, aided partly by the Knicks winning their first NBA title since 1973, even as the Yankees faced injuries. The transition to DAZN will take place after the current MLB season to avoid disruptions, enabling a smoother switch for subscribers. Linear TV customers of YES and MSG will continue receiving streaming access through DAZN at no added cost, mirroring the existing Gotham Sports arrangement.

DAZN has been aggressively expanding in the U.S. market, recently acquiring streaming technology company ViewLift in a deal valued around $100 million. This acquisition positions DAZN as a key player to absorb displaced teams from the recent collapse of the Main Street Sports Group RSN operator, although the New York teams involved in this deal were not linked to that operator. With this partnership, DAZN reinforces its footprint in U.S. regional sports by aligning with iconic New York franchises and their established regional sports networks.

Though financial details were undisclosed, DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev described the pact as a “defining moment” that underscores DAZN’s commitment to growth in the U.S. The transition away from Gotham Sports app reflects evolving dynamics in sports media distribution as streaming continues to gain prominence, offering fans a consolidated and enhanced digital streaming experience for some of New York’s most popular professional sports franchises.
