Spotify has introduced a new feature called "User Notes," allowing listeners to add personal annotations to individual tracks within playlists. Announced on July 30, 2026, this update lets users jot down memories or reasons for adding specific songs, like recalling discovering a track during a Paris vacation or hearing it on a first date. The goal is to enrich playlists by embedding personal stories, making the music experience more intimate and meaningful for users.
This journaling-like feature sets Spotify apart from competitors such as Apple Music and YouTube Music by focusing on personalization beyond music discovery. User Notes transform playlists from mere collections of songs into personalized spaces that reflect users’ emotional connections with their music. According to Spotify, over time, these notes build a vivid narrative of the listener’s musical journey and the moments shaping it.
Available now to users aged 16 and over on both free and premium plans in select markets, User Notes can be added by selecting the three-dot menu next to a track and choosing “Add note.” Once saved, these annotations are visible to anyone who can access the playlist, complete with the note writer’s profile link, fostering deeper connections through shared music experiences.
Alongside User Notes, Spotify also unveiled a Running Mode aimed at premium users in select countries. This mode curates songs tailored to different running phases and user preferences, enhancing workout sessions with audio cues and customizable beats per minute. The Running Mode reflects Spotify’s continued investment in personalized and activity-focused features, following its earlier health and fitness content collaborations.
