MMA veteran Alistair Overeem, with an extensive record of 47 wins and 19 losses, has voiced his frustration at being left out of the UFC Hall of Fame. Despite a UFC career lasting nearly a decade and notable victories against stars like Brock Lesnar and Vitor Belfort, Overeem believes his omission stems from UFC President Dana White’s personal dislike of him. Overeem suggests this animosity might trace back to his 2011 UFC signing, which required intervention by Lorenzo Fertitta, hinting that ego and personal feelings rather than performance influenced Hall of Fame selections.

Overeem’s UFC tenure included significant highlights such as his striking debut finishing Lesnar in the first round at UFC 141 and holding titles from major promotions like Strikeforce, DREAM, and K-1. However, his relationship with the UFC soured over time, culminating in his release in March 2021 shortly after a loss to Alexander Volkov and his refusal of a 50 percent pay cut. He pointed out that despite being among the best-paid athletes, he never developed a personal connection with Dana White, which he believes affected his standing in the organization.

Throughout his career, Overeem defeated numerous fighters who are either already in the Hall of Fame or likely candidates, including Vitor Belfort (already inducted), Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Frank Mir, and Junior dos Santos. This impressive résumé raises questions about the criteria for induction and why fighters like Donald Cerrone, Wanderlei Silva, and Urijah Faber received the honor, while Overeem remains excluded. He insists that the decision “comes down to the ego thing” rather than merit or career accomplishments.

Despite the snub, Overeem maintains a pragmatic attitude, stating the exclusion doesn’t deeply upset him. He acknowledges that while every athlete wants Hall of Fame recognition, it isn’t something he actively chases. Overeem revealed this was the most he’s ever openly discussed the topic, emphasizing that not being on White’s good side matters more than his fighting achievements. He remains focused on moving forward with his life, confident those who wrong him eventually face consequences.
