Hyundai Motor has introduced the Genesis GV90, a flagship all-electric SUV positioned as the largest vehicle in the Genesis lineup since entering the U.S. market ten years ago. This luxury EV, which can seat up to seven passengers, expands Genesis’ range to seven vehicles sold in the United States. Hyundai aims the GV90 at the competitive large SUV segment, where it will contend with models like Cadillac’s Vistiq and Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz’s EQS SUV, and Rivian’s R1S.
The GV90 marks a new design ethos for Genesis and will be produced at Hyundai’s facility in Ulsan, South Korea, with U.S. sales expected to commence early next year. Although pricing details are yet to be announced, the vehicle represents Hyundai’s fourth electric offering in the American market. While Genesis has maintained hybrid and gas variants on other models such as the GV70 and G80, it did not confirm if these options would be available for the GV90.
A distinctive feature of the GV90 is its availability with coach doors—also called suicide doors—that open from the middle of the vehicle, a rare engineering challenge that Genesis addressed while upholding stringent safety standards. Alongside the standard trims, a “First Edition” version will offer upscale materials like wool cashmere and exclusive badging. The GV90 is powered by a high-performance electric motor generating up to 490 kilowatts (660 horsepower) and 800 Newton-meters of torque and is expected to deliver an electric driving range of approximately 310 miles.
Genesis continues to build momentum in the U.S. market, with sales rising about 5% year-over-year to over 39,000 units in the first half of 2026, marking 22 consecutive months of growth. Hyundai’s CEO José Muñoz emphasized that the GV90 represents a pivotal moment for the brand, reflecting its commitment to innovation and delivering a luxury experience suited for the future of electric mobility.
