Hims & Hers CEO Andrew Dudum addressed the Federal Trade Commission's lawsuit accusing the company of improper data sharing, billing practices, and subscription cancellations. Dudum described the allegations as stemming from a misunderstanding of Hims & Hers’ innovative approach to healthcare, which aims to reshape traditional models in a digital ecosystem. He emphasized the company's willingness to collaborate with regulators and stated that they felt the FTC sought more a headline than a substantive resolution.
The lawsuit, filed in July by the FTC alongside Los Angeles County and Utah, criticized Hims & Hers for sharing sensitive health information with ad platforms such as Meta and Snap, charging for prescriptions before provider consultation, and making subscription cancellations difficult. Dudum defended the company’s business model as one focused on expanding access to care, calling Hims & Hers an “active disruptor” committed to improving patient access despite regulatory challenges.
Dudum also discussed the company’s handling of GLP-1 drugs, medications often prescribed for weight loss and obesity. During a shortage, Hims & Hers legally offered compounded versions at lower costs, prompting a patent infringement lawsuit from Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk. After Novo dropped the suit in March, Hims & Hers shifted to selling Novo’s branded drugs and noted that competitive price cuts by Novo and Eli Lilly have made these treatments more affordable, with Dudum predicting cash prices could fall to $40-$50 per month.
Looking ahead, Dudum expressed strong confidence in artificial intelligence’s role in transforming healthcare delivery. He revealed that Hims & Hers is investing heavily in developing proprietary AI systems rather than relying on third-party providers, viewing their internal health data as a key competitive asset. This strategy reflects the company’s ambition to become “AI native,” integrating AI deeply into its healthcare offerings and operational model.
