Group including Jeff Bezos buys minority stake in Liverpool FC, with option to become controlling owner

Jeff Bezos, along with a consortium of investors, has acquired a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, marking Bezos' first investment in a sports entity. The group purchased roughly one-third of the Premier League club in a deal valued at approximately $7.1 billion. This investment comes through 1892 Holdings, managed by businessman Amit Bhatia, who will now serve as Liverpool’s vice chairman and join the club’s expanded board.

The consortium includes significant contributions from the K5 Global fund, with Bezos as the lead investor, as well as EE Capital, the family office of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. While Bezos will not have a seat on the board, representatives from K5 Sports and EE Capital will participate in Liverpool’s governance. The minority ownership stake comes with an option for the group to purchase a controlling interest in the club within the next year, with the valuation estimated to be around $8 billion.

Liverpool FC, a top-tier English Premier League club, is valued as the world’s fourth-most valuable soccer team at $6 billion, according to CNBC’s 2026 Global Soccer Team Valuations. The club, owned by Fenway Sports Group until now, has enjoyed significant success, including winning 20 league titles and most recently securing the championship in 2025. The new ownership group aims to support Liverpool’s long-term vision by bringing expertise from global business, technology, and investment sectors.

Fenway Sports Group’s President Mike Gordon emphasized that Liverpool’s approach to building the club prioritizes long-term decisions and sustainable success. He remarked that the shared vision between FSG and 1892 Holdings made the partnership a natural fit, reflecting an appreciation for the unique qualities of Liverpool FC. Bezos, whose fortune stems from founding Amazon and who has previously explored NFL ownership, now adds Liverpool FC to his growing portfolio of significant investments.
