Google has unveiled a range of new AI study tools integrated into its Search engine and Gemini AI to enhance the learning experience for students. These features include interactive visuals, 3D simulations, and personalized practice quizzes designed to simplify complex subjects and foster deeper understanding. By enabling students to explore topics more dynamically, the update aims to position Gemini as a leading AI assistant for education, competing with rivals like OpenAI and startups such as Knowt and Gauth.
In Google Search, students can now generate custom tools and simulations relevant to their queries. For example, searching for the "pH scale" triggers an interactive visual summary, while asking more detailed questions like plotting citrus fruits on the scale results in specialized, tailored educational experiences. Additionally, learners can create personalized quizzes on a wide array of subjects, including science and languages, such as generating vocabulary tests for SAT preparation.
Google also plans to expand functionality with the integration of its Lens tool, allowing users to upload photos of study materials or problems. The AI will analyze these images to explain concepts, identify mistakes, and offer guidance to aid comprehension. Students can even upload various file types like handwritten notes or lecture slides to receive concise summaries highlighting key points, streamlining review and study processes.
On the Gemini side, Google has introduced multi-step research report generation, enabling students to request in-depth studies that run in the background while users engage in other tasks. Once completed, Gemini delivers notifications and allows discussion of the findings with voice input. The platform’s new ability to produce interactive 3D simulations — such as rotatable DNA models — supplements this with immersive educational content. A dedicated Gemini app hub has also been launched to consolidate study tools like notebooks, flashcards, and quizzes into one accessible location.
