How Lakeysha Hallmon's The Village Retail Is Platforming Black Brands With A New Location At The World's Busiest Airport

Lakeysha Hallmon, founder of The Village Market and former educator, is advancing Black entrepreneurship by opening a new location of The Village Retail at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, recognized as the world’s busiest airport. Since its founding in Atlanta in 2016, The Village Market has elevated Black brands, and the storefront launched in 2020 at Ponce City Market. Over the years, Hallmon’s venture has contributed to generating $8.3 million in revenue for Black-owned businesses.

Starting with just $20,000 in savings and $3,500 from family and friends, Hallmon expanded The Village’s impact through a dedicated retail space that showcases diverse Black brands. The new airport location, which opened in 2026, provides unprecedented exposure to over 100 million travelers annually from all continents, aligning with Hallmon’s mission to amplify Black brands on a global scale. She emphasized that this expansion reflects the potential for community-rooted businesses to grow authentically through grit, discipline, and strategic partnerships.

Airport General Manager Ricky Smith highlighted how The Village Retail’s presence at Hartsfield-Jackson strengthens the airport’s connection to Atlanta’s identity by showcasing local Black businesses to millions of visitors. This retail outlet not only represents economic empowerment for Black entrepreneurs but also signals that these brands belong on major world stages, fostering visibility and inclusion in mainstream commerce.

Travelers interested in supporting Black brands can visit The Village Retail at Concourse B inside the airport. Hallmon’s pioneering approach exemplifies how targeted investment and platforming can create economic opportunities while celebrating cultural heritage and entrepreneurship within one of the most trafficked global travel hubs.
