The WNBA has chosen the Golden State Valkyries to host the 2027 All-Star Weekend, set for July 30–31 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. This marks the first time that the 2025 expansion team will hold the midseason event. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert praised the Valkyries for their strong fan engagement since their inception in 2023, highlighting the impressive response from Bay Area supporters.

This year’s announcement came earlier than usual, with the 2026 host—Chicago—being named only last October, shortly after the 2025 WNBA Finals. The process in prior years varied widely, including cases where bids were limited or recruitment was necessary. The Valkyries reportedly outcompeted three other bids to secure the 2027 game, though details on other contenders or the bidding process remain unclear.

Golden State’s selection is supported by the franchise’s rapid success both on and off the court. All 41 of their home games have sold out at the 18,064-seat Chase Center during their first two seasons. Additionally, the team became the first WNBA franchise to reach a $1 billion valuation earlier in 2026. With a strong 25–9 record and playoff qualification, the Valkyries are also a top contender for the championship.

Owned by Joe Lacob, who also owns the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, the Valkyries benefit from shared resources and a prime venue that recently hosted the NBA All-Star Weekend. Lacob celebrated the announcement as a “full circle moment” for the city and expressed enthusiasm for delivering a memorable All-Star experience. The players’ association president, Nneka Ogwumike, also voiced support, noting that players have been eager to see the All-Star Weekend return to the Bay Area.
