Early Cerebras investor Adit Singh joins Mayfield as infrastructure partner

Adit Singh, previously a partner at Foundation Capital and an early investor in chip company Cerebras, has joined Mayfield as an infrastructure partner. Singh played a key role in securing Cerebras' initial funding, a stake that helped Foundation Capital become the third-largest shareholder when Cerebras went public in May 2026, with a valuation near $50 billion. At Mayfield, Singh will focus on investments related to hardware, infrastructure software, cybersecurity, and physical AI.

Singh highlighted Mayfield’s semiconductor portfolio as a major factor in his decision, citing notable investments like Upscale AI and Lumilens, the latter recently raising $700 million at a $5.5 billion valuation. With his background in electrical engineering and chip design, Singh believes his ability to analyze workloads from application to transistor level is a unique advantage. His past experience includes co-founding Neotribe Ventures and leading Cota Capital before moving to Mayfield.

Mayfield’s significant capital, managing $3 billion in assets, enables it to participate actively in large seed-stage infrastructure deals, writing checks up to $20 million. Singh noted that recent years have seen a rise in seed deal sizes, which smaller funds often cannot access. This capacity was appealing to him as he seeks to support startups with substantial capital needs at early stages.

Mayfield managing partner Navin Chaddha, a longtime acquaintance of Singh, remarked that while they have collaborated extensively over 15 years, aligning the timing for Singh to join the firm took time. Their shared involvement on the boards of startups such as Upscale AI and Velaura AI underscores their close working relationship, with Singh’s addition seen as a strong boost for Mayfield’s focus on semiconductor and AI infrastructure investments.
