What We Know So Far About Clay Travis’s New Media Company, Sport & State

Clay Travis has launched a new digital media company called Sport & State, valued at around $100 million, with backing from investors including Hard Rock Bet, which owns a 10% stake. The platform focuses primarily on sports content (70%) along with pop culture and political intersections with sports, positioning itself as a conservative voice in the sports media landscape. Travis plans to leverage the brands he owns, such as XX-XY Athletics, Crockett Coffee, and Perfect 10 Mortgage, to drive ad sales, while iHeartRadio will handle advertising across his syndicated radio show and digital channels.

Sport & State debuted with a lineup of live shows including hosts Chad Withrow, Jonathan Hutton, Lance Taylor, and Ryan Brown, among others. Key programming features the video adaptation of The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show and a daily sports gambling show with Kelly Stewart and colleagues. Editorial leadership is under Dom Bonvissuto as managing editor, with sports business expert Mark Burns contributing coverage. The company is actively recruiting more writers, targeting contributors who align with its conservative editorial perspective.

Though Travis’s new venture shares a similar conservative sports media approach with OutKick, which he sold to Fox in 2021, he views the two outlets as complementary rather than competitive. After fully exiting OutKick following a five-year leadership period, Travis remains connected to Fox through ongoing contributions and his appearances on Fox Sports programs. Sport & State aims to fill what Travis describes as a market gap for a moderate conservative presence in sports media, opposing what he sees as overwhelming “insanity” in current coverage.

Sport & State’s business model is innovative in its use of brand integration for ad revenue, combining owned businesses with traditional media partnerships. iHeartRadio’s involvement helps expand the reach of Clay and Buck, which now airs on over 500 stations nationwide and is projected to generate $40 million in advertising revenue next year. As Sport & State grows, it seeks to build a loyal audience through original live content and a political viewpoint that intersects thoughtfully with sports, reflecting Travis’s vision for a fresh voice in a crowded media space.
