Dr. Isaac Addae Is Redefining What It Means To Travel To Ghana Beyond Detty December Through The Lens Of Economic And Community Development

Dr. Isaac Addae is transforming how people experience travel to Ghana by shifting the focus from the popular Detty December festivities to broader economic and community development opportunities. Raised in the U.S. by Ghanaian parents and equipped with engineering degrees from Tennessee State University, Addae began his career in tech at IBM and later worked as a systems engineer in the defense sector. Despite his success, he sought a deeper sense of impact beyond technology, leading him to earn a doctorate in business administration and join Tennessee State University as a business strategy professor. This role allowed him to combine his tech and business expertise to inspire and prepare students while engaging with organizations as a consultant.

In 2025, Addae founded The Conscious Group, a global strategy and engagement firm focusing on leadership, diaspora dialogue, and Africa-U.S. economic partnerships. A flagship program from the group, Conscious Immersion, organizes quarterly trips that bring leaders and HBCU students to Ghana to explore opportunities beyond tourism, emphasizing entrepreneurship, education, and community building. These trips include workshops and cultural visits intended to give participants a richer understanding of Ghana’s economic landscape and heritage sites, such as the Volta Region, and encourage investments in sectors like real estate and business development.

The initiative has attracted nearly 60 participants, including entrepreneurs like Frederick Cawthon, founder of Biocatalysis Creations. Cawthon, who had never traveled to Africa before, joined Conscious Immersion and is now collaborating with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy to pilot a waste-to-energy project addressing the country’s plastic waste challenges. His experience illustrates the potential for U.S.-based businesses to expand globally by leveraging partnerships formed through these immersive visits, highlighting the practical impact of Addae’s approach.

Looking ahead, The Conscious Group plans to extend Conscious Immersion experiences to other African countries, such as Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Tanzania by 2027. Through this expansion, Addae aims to build sustainable bridges between the African diaspora and the continent’s economic growth, reinforcing Ghana and Africa as destinations for purposeful travel and investment rather than solely for seasonal celebrations. This vision fosters a new narrative that blends heritage, business, and community empowerment for long-term development.
