The standout hardware improvement is noticeably snappier camera performance, with faster image capture and new customization options for photography, making it a solid option for those focused on camera features.

A notable addition is Rambler, an AI-powered dictation tool that smartly removes filler words and formats speech, providing a useful and efficient tool for note-taking and messaging. This feature integrates well with Google’s AI ecosystem, supporting language switching and handling noisy environments effectively. However, other Gemini-powered AI functions like Proactive Suggestions and agentic task completion show promise but remain limited, particularly outside the U.S., where some capabilities such as task automation are not yet available.

The newly introduced LED notification light called HiLight aims to reduce screen time by delivering subtle alerts when the phone is face down, but its functionality is currently limited to signaling Gemini activation and calls from favorite contacts, excluding texts. This feature has potential for future enhancement, such as customizable colors for different types of notifications, but as it stands, it may not significantly change user behavior or notification management.

On the pricing front, Google has adjusted its lineup by removing the 128GB base model and increasing the Pixel 11 Pro XL price by $100 compared to last year's model while reducing RAM from 16GB to 12GB in the 256GB version. Given these updates, despite the camera and AI improvements, the new Pixel’s evolutionary nature and higher cost may not provide enough incentive for recent Pixel users to upgrade immediately. Some features, like improved AI dictation and camera performance, might eventually reach older Pixel devices through software updates.
