Disney’s upcoming theme park in Abu Dhabi, unveiled in May 2025, is set to be one of the company’s most innovative and interactive destinations, though it remains highly secretive about its opening date. Unlike Disney's usual themed lands, this park will feature “biomes” inspired by Abu Dhabi’s natural landscapes rather than traditional Disney themes. The project is being developed by Miral, a leading theme park operator on Yas Island known for indoor attractions like SeaWorld and Ferrari World that provide relief from the region’s intense heat. Initial concept art revealed a crystalline castle by the waterfront and suggested outdoor experiences including fireworks, indicating the park will not be fully enclosed.
Disney’s collaboration with Miral means the entertainment giant contributes mainly its brand, design, and creative expertise, while Miral handles construction and operation, making the $10 billion project low-risk for Disney. Despite the secrecy and few official disclosures, industry insiders and trade publications have cited sources targeting a completion date in the first quarter of 2033. Disney’s theme parks division chairman, Thomas Mazloum, has confirmed active development but has refrained from sharing specific timelines, highlighting how the war in the Middle East since early 2026 has caused regional shipping delays and other logistical challenges.
The theme parks on Yas Island developed by Miral have set high standards for immersive environments, and this Disney Abu Dhabi park promises to follow suit with a fresh approach influenced by local geography and culture. Imagineering’s research trips around Abu Dhabi informed the design concept, which aims to create zones themed to different landscapes such as mangroves and desert areas. This vision was partially shown in Disney’s D23 convention and in the documentary “Worldbuilders,” although much of the artwork and details remain closely guarded, with few official images released beyond select concept pieces.
While the 2033 opening estimate stems from a 2025 trade report citing reportedly primary sources, it is best viewed as a tentative target rather than a firm date. Miral has reaffirmed its commitment to the project despite regional instability, and with Disney not investing capital directly, the partnership reduces financial exposure. The timeline may be adjusted as needed depending on external factors, but unless unforeseen delays persist, Abu Dhabi’s Disney park could introduce a new kind of themed experience in under a decade, expanding Disney’s global footprint into the Middle East.
