UPS has committed over $2 billion toward expanding and enhancing its international, healthcare, and supply chain businesses as part of a multi-year investment plan running from 2024 to 2028. The company revealed these plans exclusively to CNBC, emphasizing that the investments aim to help clients swiftly adapt to evolving macroeconomic challenges and global supply chain disruptions. Scott Szwast, UPS vice president of international strategy, explained that these investments are designed to build capabilities tailored to meet the needs of complex industries and improve global supply chain management.
Specific projects under this initiative include a new logistics hub in the Philippines set to open this year, a facility in Ontario, Canada, slated for next year, and an air hub at Hong Kong International Airport that will launch in 2028. UPS has already introduced a tech-driven logistics center in Taiwan and a supply chain solutions facility in Amsterdam, integrating freight, brokerage, and cold-chain services. The Taiwan center, equipped with automation and robotics, has notably accelerated supply chain speed by a full day, while new flight routes between Paris-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Sydney have been added to meet rising demand.
The company is also investing $48 million in expanding its healthcare logistics capabilities through 27 new temperature-controlled facilities focused on pharmaceuticals like GLP-1 drugs, supporting the growing need for specialized cold-chain storage solutions. Szwast underscored the importance of flexibility and diversification as companies increasingly seek to avoid centralizing their operations and respond to product innovations with unique shipping requirements. This move reflects the rising significance of markets across Asia and the need for more agile supply chain solutions.
These investments will enable UPS to offer comprehensive, end-to-end logistics services across a broad range of industries and regions, helping clients maintain reliability and operational agility from sourcing through delivery. Szwast emphasized that by providing tailored services aligned to industry-specific demands and geographic focus, UPS aims to differentiate itself in the global logistics market and support customers in fulfilling their commitments worldwide.
