Jessica Shepard’s $2M Stunner Has Become WNBA’s Biggest Bargain

Jessica Shepard’s recent contract with the Dallas Wings has turned out to be one of the WNBA’s most valuable bargains. Despite signing a two-year, $2.05 million deal during the 2026 offseason when many million-dollar contracts were handed out, Shepard was initially underestimated because she had mostly been a bench player and had never been named an All-Star. Critics questioned the Wings’ decision, especially compared to other million-dollar signees who were either younger, borderline All-Stars, or joined expansion teams with more spending power.

Shepard’s journey in the league has been marked by perseverance, overcoming an ACL injury early in her career that sidelined her for the entire 2020 season. Drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in 2019, she mainly played a supporting role, never truly standing out until moving to Dallas in 2026. At age 30 and with experience abroad, Shepard transformed into a key player for the Wings, significantly contributing to their improved 14-8 record—four more wins than their previous worst season.

This season, Shepard has emerged as a statistical leader, ranking second on her team in scoring with 14.6 points per game, and impressively placing second in the entire league for rebounds at 11.5 per game. She also ranks ninth in assists, a notable feat for a non-point-guard. Featuring as a main partner to star Paige Bueckers, Shepard became the only Wings player to record a triple-double this season and earned her first All-Star nod, stepping ahead of several other established stars and million-dollar contract holders.

Off the court, Shepard capitalized on her breakout season by securing a multiyear endorsement deal with Unrivaled, highlighting her growing marketability. While her rise has shifted the team dynamics, including reducing teammate Alanna Smith’s minutes, Dallas is solidifying its playoff prospects for the first time since 2023. Shepard’s contract, once viewed skeptically, now exemplifies a shrewd investment, underscoring her remarkable impact and value in the WNBA.
