AI, athletes, and Keith Rabois: StrictlyVC is back in New York on September 10

TechCrunch is hosting its StrictlyVC event in New York’s West Village on September 10, marking the first time in two years the boutique series returns to the city. The evening will feature prominent figures from the venture and startup ecosystem, including Keith Rabois, who recently moved from Silicon Valley to the East Coast. Rabois will discuss his investment strategies, notably his early $50 million funding of OpenAI back in 2019, along with his views on founder capital raises and the current challenges facing AI companies.

The event also highlights a unique conversation between Craig Shapiro of Collaborative Fund and Jason Levien, CEO of D.C. United, exploring sports organizations as investment opportunities and the evolving relationship between sports, community, and commerce. Collaborative Fund is co-hosting the event, bringing an insightful perspective on the sports and venture capital crossover space.

Tristan Walker, founder of Heirloom Craft, will join the lineup to talk about reshoring American craftsmanship and building artisanal communities in an AI-influenced world. Walker’s discussion will be complemented by Brynn Putnam, who recently founded Board, a game company integrating physical play with AI tools designed to foster connection and counteract the isolating effects of technology.

Rounding out the evening, Deven Parekh of Insight Partners will share insights on the competitive dynamics within a landscape where capital is abundant but returns are highly scrutinized. With cocktails, food, and networking opportunities throughout the night, attendees will engage directly with TechCrunch writers and industry leaders, including Connie Loizos and Rebecca Bellan, making for a highly anticipated night of conversations around AI, venture economics, sports investing, and community building.
