Good Good Golf Fallout Is Talk of Tour Championship

The 2026 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding Good Good Golf’s recent driver advertisement. The backlash has forced Good Good, Callaway, the PGA Tour, and Golf Channel—the brand’s biggest partners—to engage in extensive damage control. After initial dismissive responses, Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark, CEO Matt Kendrick, and Callaway president Chip Brewer have issued apologies amid mounting criticism. Disputes between Good Good and Callaway about who bore responsibility for the ad added tension, raising questions about the future of their partnership and related projects.

Callaway, which has worked with Good Good since 2023 on content and product collaborations, is investigating how the ad was produced and approved. Although severing ties would deal a significant financial blow to Callaway, it remains a possibility, according to industry insiders. Several major retailers like Golf Galaxy and Dick’s Sporting Goods have removed Good Good merchandise, while Callaway’s own products remain available. Despite the turmoil, Callaway’s stock price has stayed relatively stable, opening at $15.68 on August 27.

The PGA Tour faces uncertainty over the upcoming Good Good Championship, slated for November at Omni Barton Creek in Austin and supported by a multiyear contract worth at least $6 million annually. The event’s viability is now in question due to the controversy, with PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp acknowledging the situation is fluid and expressing disappointment while monitoring developments. If necessary, the Tour could either operate the tournament without Good Good as the sponsor or cancel it altogether, which could impact efforts to attract younger fans.

Golf Channel is also impacted, having postponed the September 1 premiere of “Big Break x Good Good,” a revamped reality competition series featuring Good Good members and planned to lead into the championship. The show’s presenting sponsor, Golf Galaxy, dropped out amid the fallout, casting doubt on the program’s future despite it being already filmed. Canceling the show would represent a significant financial loss for Golf Channel, especially since the winner is set to gain entry to the disputed Good Good Championship.
