Mark Walter’s Company Says There’s No Fraud, No Victim, and No Fire Sale

Mark Walter’s investment firm, TWG Global, issued a strong statement denying allegations of fraud or wrongdoing related to the acquisition and funding of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This statement comes amid federal investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Southern District of New York into two of Walter’s companies, Delaware Life and Clear Spring Life & Annuity, which allegedly underreported billions of dollars tied to affiliated investments. TWG emphasized there are no victims and that no harm has been claimed, stressing their commitment to cooperating with regulators and addressing any concerns.

The ongoing probes focus on inaccurate disclosures from Walter’s life insurance businesses, raising questions that echo a dropped 2014 lawsuit claiming some policyholder funds were diverted to finance the Dodgers’ $35 million loan. Legal experts note that even if no money was lost or harm done, intentional misrepresentation or fraud could still lead to criminal prosecution if evidence supports it. Prosecutors are also likely examining Walter’s past dealings for patterns of potential misconduct to determine the intent behind recent actions.

TWG firmly rejected suggestions that Walter’s recent quick sale of the Lakers or his talks to sell his Chelsea Football Club stake represent fire sales to generate liquidity amid financial pressure. The company insisted the Dodgers and other sports assets, including Walter’s stake in the Cadillac Formula One team, are not currently for sale at distressed prices. TWG also highlighted that the Dodgers lead Major League Baseball in revenue and maintain strong financial positions relative to payroll commitments.

Despite Walter’s known disposition to entertain offers for his sports investments from prospective buyers, TWG stressed these are considered carefully and responsibly. The company’s statement aims to dispel media speculation stirred by unnamed sources and to reaffirm Walter’s commitment to operating with integrity while navigating the federal scrutiny of TWG’s financial operations. Representatives for insurance regulators and MLB have so far declined to comment on the investigations or TWG’s assertions.
