TikTok is enhancing its comment sections with new interactive features designed to boost user engagement. The company recently introduced voice comments, comment polls, photo carousel comments, and Live Photo comments. These additions aim to transform comment areas from simple feedback zones into dynamic spaces for conversation and interaction by incorporating elements inspired by messaging apps. Voice comments allow users to record audio messages up to a minute long, which others can listen to directly beneath any video.
The rollout of voice comments will begin globally over the next month, available to users aged 18 and older. TikTok has ensured that these voice interactions adhere to the platform’s Community Guidelines through a combination of human review and automated detection tools, including speech-to-text technology. Meanwhile, creators now have the option to add polls within comments on their own videos, a feature that was limited in previous tests but is now accessible worldwide. Polls can include up to five options and enable creators to track results in real-time within the comment section.
Photo carousel comments improve visual engagement by allowing users to include up to nine photos in a single comment, an upgrade from the previous limit of one photo per comment. Additionally, Live Photo comments are being launched globally, providing users with the ability to upload brief animated images that offer a preview motion before the full image appears. These features collectively aim to deepen viewer participation and keep users more connected through richer content forms.
These updates reflect TikTok’s ongoing strategy to make the platform more immersive and interactive, leveraging sound and visual elements that have historically fueled trends and viral content on the app. With these new tools, TikTok is borrowing from communication and social messaging paradigms to encourage longer and more meaningful engagement in the comment sections, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience on the platform.
