How This Black-Owned Business Got Its Rent Covered For A Month With The Help Of Ms. Rachel

Ashley La Bomme-Benson is the founder of The Bomme Sweets, a Black-owned gourmet sweets shop based in Los Angeles that she started in 2015 while still in college. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she briefly worked in the corporate sector but left due to creative limitations. Her shop offers a variety of treats, including red velvet cookies, chocolate-dipped fruits, and banana pudding cupcakes, serving customers nationwide from her online store.

The breakthrough for Bomme-Benson’s business came in August 2026 when educator and children’s YouTube personality Rachel Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, used her large social media platform to spotlight Black-owned businesses. On August 11, Ms. Rachel posted on Threads urging her 21.1 million YouTube subscribers to support Black-owned businesses by commenting and engaging with them. Bomme-Benson happened to see the post and responded, which led to Ms. Rachel sharing her comment and following her on social media.

This endorsement triggered a surge in visibility and orders for The Bomme Sweets, especially impressive as the business had not received cookie orders for over a year. Within two weeks, The Bomme Sweets amassed more than 330,000 views on Threads and received 102 cookie orders. The immediate financial impact was significant, with the business generating $3,650 in sales in just 24 hours—enough to cover the rent for an entire month, a welcome relief amid economic challenges.

Bomme-Benson credits this exposure for boosting her confidence and revitalizing her business momentum. Although she continues processing orders and fulfilling demand, the support from Ms. Rachel’s endorsement illustrates the power of social media in uplifting Black entrepreneurs. For those interested, The Bomme Sweets remains accessible nationwide at TheBommeSweets.com.
