The Aflac Kickoff Game has pioneered a new marketing strategy by becoming the first neutral-site college football event to integrate Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation for student-athletes. Operated by Peach Bowl, Inc., the game secured a $6 million deal with third-party entities to offer NIL agreements to around two dozen Auburn football players. These athletes, including Byrum Brown, Chas Nimrod, and Keshaun Singleton, participated in promotional efforts such as social media campaigns, advertisements, and public appearances to help market the game.

This initiative was inspired by the House settlement in June 2025, which opened opportunities for NIL compensation in ways that benefit both schools and athletes. David Epps, CEO of Peach Bowl, Inc., highlighted that the players chosen were identified by Auburn, with marketing assets tailored to fit their individual brands. Auburn’s spokesperson praised the collaboration, emphasizing how it expands both the players’ and the university’s exposure into the Atlanta market while delivering genuine third-party NIL deals.

Because the game historically had Auburn as the home team, the financial focus was placed exclusively on Auburn athletes, although the model is designed to easily accommodate players from both competing teams in the future. The approach has already proven effective, driving strong ticket sales and adding authenticity to promotional materials by enabling fans to connect with the athletes they will see on the field.

Scheduled for September 5, 2026, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the game features Auburn against Baylor and will be broadcast nationally on ABC. David Epps sees this method as a “gamechanger” for neutral-site games, making such events more attractive and financially rewarding for schools, athletes, and organizers alike. This innovative NIL integration marks a milestone in college sports marketing, signaling a shift in how kickoff games and similar events can operate moving forward.
