‘More Content Is Always Great:’ Inside Pocket FM’s $400 Million Content Farm

Pocket FM, an India-based audio microdrama platform launched in 2018, has grown into a $400 million revenue powerhouse by leveraging AI-driven, user-generated audio content. Its flagship series, My Vampire System, boasts over 1.5 billion plays and has generated nearly $90 million, highlighting the platform’s addictive microtransaction model that charges listeners per episode after a daily free listening limit. Pocket’s unique approach to snackable, high-volume audio dramas has attracted significant investment from Tencent, Lightspeed, and others, pushing its valuation to around $750 million by 2024.

Founder and CEO Rohan Nayak shifted the company's production strategy in 2025 from traditional contracted writers and voice actors to an AI-supported content farm, enabling explosive growth in both content and revenues. The platform now hosts contributions from over 550,000 creators and uploads more than 200,000 new hours of audio content monthly. This quantity-driven model has increased user retention by 50%, expanded the paying user base to 2.5 million, and doubled Pocket's annual revenue in the last year, even as content quality varies widely.

This AI-centric approach significantly reduced Pocket’s production costs—from $2,000 an hour in 2024 to just $30 per hour—allowing the company to become profitable with an expected $10 million profit in 2026. Despite industry skepticism toward amateur and AI-generated content, Pocket’s sizable U.S. audience (80% of revenues) is embracing the model. The company pulled back from a costly 2024 experiment with microdrama video but recently launched a new video app, Pocket Saga, generating over $1 million monthly, signaling optimism about AI video production at scale.

Looking forward, Nayak envisions a future where user-generated storytelling platforms rival traditional studios in profitability and influence. He plans to release enhanced AI tools to democratize content creation further, enabling anyone to become an “architect” of their own series. Pocket FM’s data-driven, volume-first strategy exemplifies a shift in entertainment where AI empowers massive IP incubation, attracting major players like Disney and Fox to invest in microdrama startups as they seek new, lower-risk content pipelines.
