Meta expands subscription push with new AI-focused plans

Meta has launched a new subscription service called Meta One, designed to enhance access to its AI-powered tools and premium features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This follows the company’s 2025 investment of $14.3 billion in Scale AI, which brought startup CEO Alexandr Wang into Meta to lead AI efforts. The service builds on Meta’s earlier subscription tiers introduced in March, which provided extra app features like profile customizations and story insights for modest monthly fees.

The new Meta One service offers plans tailored for different user needs, including individual AI power users and businesses or creators. For individuals, the $7.99/month Core and $19.99/month Premium plans bundle features from the Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus subscriptions with expanded AI capabilities. These include advanced image and video generation tools powered by Meta’s Muse models, AI editing features on Instagram Stories, and creative voice tools. However, exact AI usage limits vary based on location and other factors.

For businesses and content creators, Meta introduced tiered plans ranging from $14.99/month to $499/month, offering tools to manage presence, analytics, scheduling, and customer engagement. Lower tiers provide essentials like verified badges and impersonation detection, while higher plans increase access to team collaboration, detailed insights, broadcast credits, and enhanced AI-powered support. Upcoming additions will further extend capabilities in marketing, operations, and content optimization, alongside cloud storage and AI assistance on Meta’s Edits content-creation app.

Early indications show the subscription model is already generating significant revenue, with Instagram making approximately $1.2 million and Facebook around $528,000 daily as of early September. US users drove a substantial portion of this revenue uplift, surpassing historical engagement baselines. Analysts predict this subscription expansion could add between $13.5 billion and $20 billion to Meta’s revenue by the late 2020s, helping offset the company’s AI development costs and future-proofing its digital ecosystem.
