Wonder scores a $425 million partnership with DoorDash as it builds its food empire

Wonder, the food tech company led by Marc Lore, has secured a significant partnership and investment deal with DoorDash valued at $425 million. Under this agreement, DoorDash will acquire Wonder’s Grubhub Campus Dining business, formerly known as Tapingo, for $300 million. Additionally, DoorDash will contribute $125 million to Wonder’s $650 million Series D funding round announced in July. The partnership aims to boost Wonder's expansion efforts, especially in the fast-casual dining segment through its ghost kitchen food halls concept.

Founded by veteran e-commerce entrepreneur Marc Lore, Wonder is rapidly building a diverse portfolio of food brands and delivery companies. Its acquisitions include the delivery platform Grubhub, as well as restaurant chains like Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, Salt Hank’s, and Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken. The company also owns media and meal kit brands such as Tastemade and Blue Apron. This expansive strategy positions Wonder as a major player in the food delivery and restaurant industry, seeking to integrate multiple culinary experiences under its umbrella.

With DoorDash’s acquisition of Grubhub Campus Dining, the delivery platform plans to extend this service beyond its current presence at 450 colleges and universities to other venues such as stadiums and hotels. DoorDash co-founder Tony Xu highlighted that this move will enhance food choices and convenience for college students while improving operational efficiency for institutions. Wonder’s CEO Marc Lore emphasized that the partnership supports their broader vision of a fully autonomous food system capable of producing and delivering personalized meals for all weekly meals.

Wonder has been growing fast, particularly in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S., with its locations increasing to 157—more than four times its footprint since early 2025. The company plans to enter the Texas market by early 2027 as part of its continued national expansion. The collaboration with DoorDash and the infusion of capital is expected to accelerate Wonder’s mission to innovate in food delivery and delivery-driven restaurants.
