NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell highlighted the recent surge in the company’s momentum as a key driver for its future growth prospects. He pointed to NASCAR’s strategic media partnerships, implemented last year, which have broadened the sport's reach through multiple streaming and cable platforms. These agreements, valued at around $7.7 billion, span networks like Fox, NBC, USA Network, TNT Sports, and Amazon Prime Video, alongside the CW’s exclusive rights to the NASCAR Xfinity Series, enabling a diverse range of access points for fans.
O’Donnell emphasized the importance of engaging younger audiences by expanding NASCAR’s digital footprint and connecting with fans online. He views the varied media landscape not as a challenge but as an opportunity to offer numerous “front doors” for fans to experience NASCAR content. This approach aligns with shifting media consumption habits and broadens NASCAR’s appeal among newer, tech-savvy viewers.
Another notable growth avenue involves the anticipated release of “Days of Thunder 2,” a Paramount film sequel featuring Tom Cruise reprising his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, with Anne Hathaway co-starring. Scheduled for summer 2028, the film is expected to significantly amplify brand awareness and attract new fans, with Cruise himself recently visiting NASCAR headquarters to express enthusiasm about promoting the sport.
Looking beyond the domestic market, O’Donnell revealed that NASCAR is seriously considering international expansion, although the league currently only races in the U.S. and Mexico. He stressed the importance of establishing brand awareness and cultivating a fan culture internationally before hosting races abroad. O’Donnell, appointed CEO in April 2026 as the first leader outside the founding family, aims to ensure a genuine NASCAR experience wherever the league expands globally.
