Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport has been officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, marking the first instance of a U.S. airport being named after a sitting president. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the change, which took effect on July 9, 2026. Alongside the new name, the airport's FAA identifier transitioned from PBI to DJT, and the International Air Transport Association code change will follow on August 18.

Major U.S. airlines, including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and Southwest Airlines, have begun updating their systems to reflect the new DJT code for the airport. Despite this, travelers can still search for flights using the former PBI code during the transition period. The airport is a hub for more than a dozen airlines, serving the West Palm Beach area where the Trump family maintains a strong presence, notably with the nearby Mar-a-Lago club.

The renaming was authorized earlier this year after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation to change the airport's name, a decision later approved by the FAA. The airport estimates the total cost of the rebranding effort at $5.5 million, with half of the funding provided by the state and the remainder covered by local airport budgets. The airport has assured passengers that despite branding updates, their focus remains on maintaining a safe and welcoming travel experience.

Eric Trump, son of the former president, highlighted the significance of the change on social media, noting his pride in seeing the "DJT" code on boarding passes as he frequently flies out of the airport. The private jet known as "Trump Force One," owned by the Trump Organization, is expected to be the first plane to land at the newly named airport, underscoring the family’s ongoing connection to the facility.
