Jeff Bezos’ family office backed five AI startups in June

In June 2026, Jeff Bezos’ family office, Bezos Expeditions, notably intensified its investments in artificial intelligence startups by backing five companies, representing 10% of all family office deals that month, according to data from Fintrx. This surge in activity has positioned Bezos Expeditions as the most prolific family office investor of the year so far, with a total of eight direct private company investments. Among these, the family office participated in five major funding rounds, including a significant $12 billion Series B lead for physical AI startup Prometheus.

Prometheus, co-founded and co-led by Bezos himself, aims to develop an “artificial engineer” capable of accelerating the design and manufacturing processes for a wide range of products, spanning jet engines to pharmaceuticals. Valued at about $41 billion, the company has raised over $18 billion to date, primarily to build large datasets and the computational infrastructure necessary for its ambitious goals. Bezos highlighted the importance of invention and speeding up innovation cycles in an interview with CNBC, emphasizing Prometheus’ role in transforming product development.

Beyond Prometheus, Bezos Expeditions expanded its portfolio with four additional AI ventures, each focusing on different aspects of AI technology. The funded startups include General Intuition, which trains AI models on extensive video gameplay data; CuspAI, focused on chemical AI models; Flourish, inspired by the human brain; and Generalist, which aims to enhance robotics' ability to perform complex tasks. These investments illustrate a broad, strategic approach to AI, with Bezos’ firm taking co-lead positions in several of these funding rounds.

Despite widespread discussions about a potential AI investment bubble, Bezos remains unconcerned and even embraces the surge in funding as beneficial for the sector. He acknowledges that while some investments may fail, the influx of capital is crucial for identifying and advancing promising technologies. By doubling down on capital-heavy AI startups, Bezos Expeditions is betting on the long-term transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
