Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus SE Performante, a new performance-oriented hybrid version of its popular Urus SUV. This model features a bold design with a larger grille and hood scoops, along with upgraded interior elements. Positioned as the “fastest Super SUV in the world,” the Urus SE Performante can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 194 mph. It uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor, producing a total of 812 horsepower and around 738 foot-pounds of torque.

The launch of this hybrid SUV marks Lamborghini’s continued focus on gas-electric vehicles after the company abandoned plans for fully electric models. CEO Stephan Winkelmann described the Urus SE Performante as a “game changer” and emphasized the importance of innovation that aligns with customer acceptance. Lamborghini is holding off on announcing pricing for the Urus SE Performante but noted that the 2026 Urus SE model currently starts between $250,000 and $280,000, depending on specifications.

The Urus has been a key driver of Lamborghini’s growth, accounting for roughly half of the brand’s global sales, which approached 11,000 vehicles last year. The company’s move away from full EVs in favor of hybrids follows observations that electric vehicle adoption among its customers remains limited. Winkelmann stated the company chose this path after analyzing market demand rather than pushing electric technology prematurely on its clientele.

Lamborghini’s decision contrasts with Ferrari, which recently introduced its first all-electric vehicle, the Luce, amid mixed reactions. While Winkelmann declined to comment directly on Ferrari’s EV model or the public’s response, he affirmed that innovation is essential but should not be pursued for its own sake. When asked about the possibility of returning to exclusive gasoline models, he left the option open, responding “never say never.”
