Multiple First Time Gold Medalists Highlight The Professional Pickleball Association 2026 Virginia Beach Open

The Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) hosted the 2026 Mojo Energy Pouches Virginia Beach Open simultaneously with a 1500/cup level event in Australia, marking a unique moment with concurrent 1000-level competitions worldwide. Though some top players were absent due to travel or rest, the Virginia Beach event provided a platform for emerging talents and new partnerships, culminating in multiple first-time gold medalists across categories. The venue showcased upgrades with more spectator space and enhanced privacy for players, contributing to a festive fall weekend despite rainy weather earlier in the event.

In the men's singles, John Lucian Goins claimed his third PPA singles title by defeating Jaume Martinez Vich, who had been seeking his first win in 21 final appearances. The competition was unpredictable due to many prominent players missing, creating opportunities for lower seeds like Goins and Adam Harvey to advance deep. Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Kate Fahey secured her eighth career singles title while facing a surprising finalist, Helena Jansen, who reached her first PPA final after impressive knockouts including against high-ranked competitors.

Mixed doubles saw Kate Fahey complete a double gold weekend, partnering with Eric Oncins to triumph over Riley Newman and Catherine Parenteau in a tight three-set final. The men’s doubles draw witnessed a breakthrough for Jaume Martinez Vich and Elliott Schupp, who captured gold after a surprising run beating favored teams, including the No. 2 seeds Andrei Daescu and Will Howells. In women’s doubles, newcomers Sofia Sewing and Catherine Parenteau emerged victorious, with Sewing earning her first PPA gold medal, highlighting the tournament’s theme of rising stars and fresh champions.

The event also featured senior pro competitions with Joshua Cooperman and the veteran doubles team of Altaf Merchant and Steve Deakin adding more titles to their career tallies. Off-court, the tour continued to face challenges including Lea Jansen’s serious leg injury and The Picklr’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Nonetheless, the Virginia Beach Open served as a critical moment in the 2026 season ahead of the upcoming 3,000-point World Championships in Dallas, showcasing the sport’s expanding depth and growing competitive excitement across regions and player ranks.
