Disney+ and Hulu have greenlit a reboot of the hit musical comedy series "Glee," more than a decade after its original six-season run on Fox ended in 2015. Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, the original show centered around students at William McKinley High School navigating the ups and downs of teen life while competing in show choir. The reboot script has been completed by the original creators, and Murphy has spoken with about 10 original cast members, many eager to return. While an official cast list and premiere date have not been announced, it’s confirmed that Lea Michele will reprise her iconic role as Rachel Berry.
Along with Michele, original cast members Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet have signaled their involvement in the revival. Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce, posted a nostalgic Instagram hinting at her return, while Overstreet, portraying Sam Evans, tweeted “Reunited and it feels so good!” The show’s official Instagram account also celebrated the reboot announcement, fueling anticipation among fans worldwide. The reboot aims to recapture the spirit of the original series, which was lauded for addressing social issues and delivering memorable musical performances.
Not all original cast members currently have confirmed roles in the reboot. Matthew Morrison, who portrayed teacher and glee club director Will Schuester, is reportedly not yet in talks, though he remains hopeful. Jane Lynch, fan-favorite coach Sue Sylvester, has expressed enthusiasm to return but has not been officially approached. Other key cast members such as Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, and others have not announced commitments, though some have shown support for the project through social media.
As the "Glee" reboot continues development, Disney+ and Hulu have yet to provide details on the plot, number of episodes, or filming schedule. For now, fans can revisit all six seasons of the original "Glee," which remain available for streaming on both platforms. The revival represents Disney’s bid to reignite the series’ multi-million-dollar music model and tap into the nostalgia and enduring popularity of the franchise among new generations.
