Scott Borchetta Confirms IndyCar Not Returning To Nashville In 2027

Scott Borchetta, the entertainment mogul and race sponsor behind the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix, confirmed that the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series schedule will not include the Nashville Superspeedway. After three years at the 1.33-mile track in Lebanon, Tennessee, IndyCar will shift focus back to downtown Nashville, aiming to realize the original vision of making it “The Monaco of the South.” Borchetta emphasized that prioritizing investment in a downtown street circuit is essential for the event’s success, a move strongly supported by both IndyCar and FOX.

The race had moved to the Nashville Superspeedway in 2024 due to construction of a new Tennessee Titans stadium and conflicts with NFL scheduling, which blocked the possibility of running races downtown. Despite efforts to keep the event viable at the Superspeedway, including changing promoters to Penske Entertainment, attendance challenges persisted. The Superspeedway hosted the IndyCar Championship finale in 2024 and 2025 but eventually proved less ideal due to its distance from Nashville’s core and other logistical issues.

Alongside the Nashville shift, IndyCar is also dropping the streets of Washington, D.C., from its 2027 schedule. The August 2026 Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington was a one-time celebration event honoring the United States’ 250th birthday, never intended to be an annual stop due to permitting costs and regulatory complexities. Conversely, the 2027 schedule is expected to feature an international race in Spain, marking IndyCar’s first event outside North America since 2013, further signaling the series’ expanding global ambitions.

Although Nashville’s Superspeedway phase is ending, Borchetta remains committed to IndyCar and hopeful for a return to a downtown street race that captures the city’s energetic vibe and racing spectacle. The initial success of the Music City Grand Prix downtown, which featured iconic city landmarks and generated substantial fan excitement, sets the stage for a revival in that location. The upcoming 2027 NTT IndyCar Series schedule announcement will clarify these changes and underscore Nashville’s long-term role in the series’ future.
