Alejandro Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United last year in a $54 million transfer after falling out of favor at Old Trafford. However, his first season at Stamford Bridge has been underwhelming, with just one goal and four assists across 24 Premier League appearances. As a result, he fell out of the regular starting lineup, and it appears new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso may not see a future for him in the squad.

Alonso is expected to implement a 3-4-2-1 formation, similar to what he successfully used at Bayer Leverkusen, which does not accommodate a traditional winger like Garnacho. Chelsea has already invested in other wide players, including Estevao and Pedro Neto, who outperformed Garnacho last season, along with promising youngster Jamie Gittens. This tactical shift and fresh competition indicate that Chelsea is prepared to let Garnacho leave.

Garnacho's move from Manchester United now looks premature in hindsight. Although he had a promising development trajectory at United, reported conflicts with manager Ruben Amorim and some teammates precipitated his transfer. Chelsea initially saw great potential in the 22-year-old, with former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior acknowledging his talent and stressing the importance of consistency for young players.

Despite his age, Garnacho faces a critical career moment as Chelsea’s emphasis on rapid player turnover gives him little time to establish himself. His struggles in London could deter potential buyers, raising doubts about whether he can truly reach the elite level expected. For now, it seems Chelsea is ready to move on from him, leaving his future uncertain.
