Tesla has partnered with car rental platform Turo to encourage the use of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software by promoting Teslas equipped with the technology on Turo’s marketplace. Eligible Tesla owners who list their cars as rentals will receive a one-month free trial of the FSD software, and Turo will verify which vehicles have the system enabled by integrating directly with Tesla’s API. This collaboration aims to increase familiarity and adoption of Tesla’s advanced driver assistance capabilities among renters.
The move follows recent updated sales data from Tesla, which revealed that about 1.7 million customers worldwide have purchased FSD, with over 75% of North American car buyers opting for an FSD subscription in the third quarter of 2026. This is a significant gain compared to previous quarters, which Tesla attributes to a revamped sales focus emphasizing FSD as a primary feature rather than just a car model. CEO Elon Musk highlighted that more customers are seeking Tesla’s driver assistance experience as a key selling point.
For Turo, this partnership enhances the appeal of Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y, already among the platform’s most rented vehicles this year. Turo CEO Andre Haddad noted this integration helps bridge the gap between consumer curiosity about self-driving technology and hands-on use. Research cited by Turo shows growing interest in driverless tech among travelers, particularly younger generations, and offering FSD-enabled rentals aligns with that rising demand.
Customers renting these Teslas will receive clear guidance emphasizing the supervised nature of the FSD system, underscoring that drivers must remain vigilant and ready to take control at all times. The listings will highlight self-driving features, and renters can access tutorials to better understand FSD’s capabilities, ensuring a safer experience while experiencing this advanced driving technology firsthand.
