Apple rolls out iOS 27.2 with new Siri AI languages and security fixes

Apple has released the iOS 27.2 update for iPhones and iPads, introducing several enhancements centered around Siri AI, security, and device functionality. This update expands Siri AI’s language capabilities to beta support in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Siri can now retain memory of user preferences and past conversations to provide more personalized responses, drawing on interactions with apps like Messages, Calendar, and Safari while allowing users to exclude specific apps from memory retention.

The iOS 27.2 update also boosts the foldable iPhone Duo with Apple Pencil compatibility in apps such as Notes and Preview, addressing functionality gaps amid ongoing hardware issues reported by early buyers. Additional visual improvements include the Edge Light effect that enhances video call lighting on faces. FaceTime also gains new features like Dual Capture, enabling users to stream simultaneously from front and rear cameras during group calls, and options to include third-party sign language interpreters or live captioners in calls.

Further usability upgrades in this release include improved suggestions for adding messages to reminders or calendar events, editable captions and comments in Shared Albums, and expanded notifications on album expiry dates. The Podcast app has been refreshed to highlight new episodes and progress for followed shows. Notably, the update introduces Multiview functionality for the iPhone, allowing viewers to watch multiple live sports streams simultaneously through Apple TV, covering events like Major League Soccer, Formula 1, and Major League Baseball.

Security is a major focus of iOS 27.2, with Apple implementing over 160 fixes that address vulnerabilities across recent and older iOS versions, including iOS 26 and even iOS 18. A critical patch resolves a flaw exploited in highly sophisticated targeted attacks, typical of government-sponsored spyware or forensic tools, though Apple withheld specifics on the attackers. These extensive security improvements aim to protect the significant portion of users still on older operating systems and uphold device safety in an increasingly complex threat landscape.
