GM will switch to Nasdaq from the NYSE on Nov. 17

General Motors announced it will move its common-stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to Nasdaq, with the transition expected to take effect on November 17. The company plans to retain its ticker symbol "GM," and shareholders are not required to take any actions related to the change. This shift aligns with GM’s evolving identity as a technology-focused automaker and is seen as a strategic step to support its growth trajectory.

The move to Nasdaq also opens the door for GM to be considered for inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, a key benefit as Nasdaq tends to cater to tech-driven companies. GM’s Chief Financial Officer, Paul Jacobson, highlighted that the change reflects the company’s customer-centric and technology-driven approach. He also expressed appreciation for the NYSE’s historical partnership dating back to GM’s original listing in 1911.

GM's decision follows recent trends of prominent companies such as Walmart, DoorDash, and Palantir Technologies switching from the NYSE to Nasdaq. These companies often cite reasons including opportunities for index inclusion, cost efficiencies, enhanced brand visibility, and access to Nasdaq’s investor relations and ESG resources. Hilton Worldwide Holdings also recently announced a similar move.

This transition comes shortly after GM showcased its focus on advanced technology through an event emphasizing artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicle development. The automaker has actively repurchased stock and seen its shares more than double since 2024, closing recently at $80.54 with a market valuation near $64.4 billion. The Nasdaq listing is expected to further underline GM’s commitment to innovation and growth.
