Microsoft hits 10 quarters of record-breaking revenue in a row

Microsoft continues to demonstrate strong financial momentum, marking its tenth consecutive quarter of record-breaking revenue with an impressive $92.3 billion reported for the July to September 2026 period. This revenue figure represents a 19% increase compared to the same quarter last year and highlights sustained growth despite an evolving technology landscape. The company also posted a notable $36.6 billion in net income, a 32% year-over-year increase on a GAAP basis, illustrating robust profitability driven primarily by its cloud offerings.

The driver behind Microsoft’s financial success remains its cloud business. The newly reported Microsoft Cloud segment brought in $63.9 billion this quarter, growing 30% from the previous year. In a recent restructuring, Microsoft divided its operations into two main segments, "Agents and Infra" and "Devices and Consumer." The cloud-related "Agents and Infra" segment, which includes Azure and Microsoft 365, generated $76.8 billion in revenue, up 25% year over year, while the Devices and Consumer segment experienced a 3% decline to $15.5 billion, reflecting weakened Windows OEM and device sales.

One standout performance was Azure’s disclosed revenue for the first time, amounting to $33.2 billion in the quarter with 48% growth year over year. This figure places Azure ahead of Google Cloud, which reported $30.7 billion, though Google exhibited a faster growth rate. Azure’s revenue accounts for around 36% of Microsoft’s total quarterly revenue and highlights the significance of cloud infrastructure services, including traditional applications and expanding AI workloads, in Microsoft’s revenue mix.

Microsoft also emphasized its AI-related revenue streams, with $10 billion attributed to OpenAI services running predominantly on Azure. The company reported a 73% increase in its "commercial remaining performance obligation" to $677 billion, reflecting the sizable contracted future revenue from AI investments. To support these commitments, Microsoft significantly ramped up capital expenditures, reaching a record $45.2 billion in the quarter. This positions Microsoft as a major player in the ongoing competition among cloud giants like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and others.
