Google announced an upgrade to its Chrome browser’s autofill functionality that leverages AI to extract relevant information from users’ Gmail accounts to help fill out online forms. This enhanced autofill feature can automatically suggest details such as flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking information, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card details by referencing emails in the user’s inbox. The update expands Google’s existing Personal Intelligence capabilities, which already connect Google Apps with its AI assistant, Gemini, to provide users with context-aware answers.
This new autofill feature aims to streamline users’ online experience by making form completion faster and more intuitive, reducing the need to manually search emails for pertinent information. The functionality is likened to Apple’s popular autofill system that automatically detects and presents verification codes received via text messages. By simplifying these tasks, Google hopes to enhance user convenience and strengthen Chrome’s position among competing browsers, encouraging more users to remain within Google’s ecosystem.
Users maintain control over the feature through Chrome’s settings, where they can choose whether to enable or disable this enhanced autofill. Google assures that all sensitive data accessed during the process is encrypted to protect user privacy and security. Currently, the feature is rolling out to U.S. users on desktop platforms, as well as in Chrome’s iOS and Android apps integrated with Gemini.
This announcement follows Google’s ongoing efforts to weave AI deeper into its products, making everyday online activities more efficient and less cumbersome. The rollout of this AI-powered autofill is another step in broadening the capabilities of Google’s AI assistant technologies, reinforcing the company’s commitment to incorporating artificial intelligence to anticipate and fulfill users’ needs seamlessly.
