Good Good’s 50-State Road Trip: Delaware To South Carolina

Good Good continued its ambitious 50-state golf journey by playing notable courses from Delaware through South Carolina, each with unique team match formats and memorable experiences. In Delaware at Baywood Greens Golf Club, the group played a strategic 3v3 scramble known as Pick Your Poison. The day included challenges off the course too, such as a broken bus key and arcade games, adding to the adventure. Despite overcast weather, the course impressed the crew, who expressed interest in returning on a sunnier day.

The trip moved on to Maryland’s Bulle Rock Golf Course, a well-regarded Pete Dye design that previously hosted several LPGA Championships. There, the group competed in a 2v2v2 alternate-shot match after enjoying seafood at Woody’s Crab House, known for its blue crabs and oysters. The competitive spirit was high as Team Clark took an early lead and maintained a decisive victory while appreciating the stunning views over rolling hills and Chesapeake Bay waters.

In Virginia, playing Cutalong at Tribute Resort, the group faced challenging windy and humid conditions described as the coldest so far on the trip. Despite the weather, a 3v3 scramble format saw Clark, Castaneda, and Scharff maintain a narrow lead to secure the win. The episode included visits to a local diner and an animal sanctuary, showing the group’s interest in local culture beyond golf. They rated their Virginia stop highly, noting the unique hotel and the resilience needed to play in tough weather.

In North Carolina and South Carolina, the adventure took on special significance with encounters steeped in golf history and personal moments. At Pinehurst No. 9, the only Jack Nicklaus course in the area, the group played a tee-flip knockout game, culminating in a close chip-shot challenge to win that was celebrated as a favorite coin moment. The South Carolina stop at Solina Golf Club, hosted by PGA Tour player Wesley Bryan, led to a heartfelt reunion for Matt Scharff with his family and a spirited Ryder Cup-style match captained by the Bryan brothers. The South Carolina episode received the highest rating of the five states, marking it as a highlight in Good Good’s ongoing 50-state golf expedition.
