Pressed Roots, the silk blowout bar specializing in textured hair care, is expanding beyond Texas with its first salon set to open in Washington, D.C. This move marks the beauty brand’s fifth location and aligns with founder Piersten Gaines’ vision of making quality hair care accessible nationwide. Gaines emphasized that the company prioritized perfecting its operational model in Texas before branching out, selecting D.C. due to its strong alignment with Pressed Roots’ brand values, market density, and growth potential.
The Washington, D.C. salon is slated to open in early December 2026 and will replicate the seamless and efficient experience customers enjoy in the Texas locations. To maintain this consistency, Pressed Roots leverages proprietary technology that provides stylists with detailed operational metrics like average styling time and customer feedback scores. This technology supports a customer experience where services typically take just about 100 minutes, a standout feat in the blowout industry, and the new D.C. site will feature a dedicated training station to further support stylist excellence.
Pressed Roots currently employs over 100 people, with plans to grow to around 150 employees following the D.C. expansion. The company anticipates concluding 2026 having completed approximately 150,000 services and has recently secured additional funding to bring total investment to $6 million. Gaines hopes the expansion demonstrates the profitability and value of businesses serving the textured hair community, encouraging more investment in and support of Black-owned businesses.
Looking ahead, Pressed Roots is embracing franchising as a growth pathway, with its first franchise location expected to open in 2027. Gaines envisions this model as creating wealth-building opportunities for stylists and aspiring entrepreneurs who share the brand’s commitment to quality and community. The franchise strategy reflects Gaines’ long-term goal of scaling Pressed Roots through replicable systems that empower more people to participate in ownership within the beauty industry.
