The first day of the 2026 Internet Invitational at Ozarks National saw intense competition among four teams: Blue, White, Green, and Red, with 32 players facing potential elimination. Team Blue, led by Peter Finch, initially held a slight advantage over Ryan Ruffels’ Team White, while Wesley Bryan’s Team Green dominated Brad Dalke’s Team Red. The tournament’s alternate-shot format on the back nine brought both excitement and challenges, including a memorable mishap where Team Blue’s Trent Ryan fell into a bunker after a mishit shot.

The day’s matches featured moments of drama and unexpected setbacks, including slow play controversies and fierce battles on difficult holes like the 17th. Team Red managed an early win, but Team Green maintained its strong performance, ultimately defeating Team Red 10.5 to 5.5. Meanwhile, Team Blue extended their lead over Team White, but the underdog White fought back hard, setting the stage for a tightly contested finish. Commentary from personalities like Dave Portnoy and Kevin Kisner added humor and insights as they officiated and entertained throughout the matches.

The most thrilling conclusion came as the matches ended in an 8-8 tie between Team Blue and Team White, necessitating a playoff. The playoff format was a two-vs-two alternate-shot challenge with dynamic pairings from each team. After an even first hole, the decisive second playoff hole featured Big John Lancewicz, an unlikely hero, sinking a critical 22-foot birdie putt for Team White, securing their advancement to the next day. Big John’s role was notably surprising given his underdog status and prior mixed reputation within the field.

This closely fought day showcased key players like Grant Horvat and Frankie Borrelli, whose performances heavily influenced the outcomes. The tournament’s unique team dynamics, dramatic moments, and mix of professional talent and entertaining personalities all contributed to an engaging first day, highlighting the skill and unpredictability of this Internet Invitational event.
