Meet The Breeders Cup Classic Entrants Running For $7 Million

The $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic is set for October 31 at Keeneland, featuring eight elite horses from around the world competing in a prestigious mile and a quarter race. NBC will broadcast the event, which attracts top contenders including last year’s champion Forever Young from Japan at 2-1 odds, aiming to become only the second repeat winner after Tiznow. The field also boasts the past two Kentucky Derby winners: 2025’s Sovereignty, favored at 5-2, and 2026’s Golden Tempo at 5-1 odds. Other challengers such as Magnitude, Knightsbridge, and Napoleon Solo round out a highly competitive lineup.

Forever Young, trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Ryusei Sakai, has earned more than $32 million globally and demonstrated versatility and high class across international races. His 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic win came from a pace-stalking trip at Del Mar, making him a prime candidate for a repeat victory. Sovereignty, trained by Bill Mott with jockey Junior Alvarado, has seven wins in twelve starts, including four Grade 1 victories and a commanding Whitney Stakes win at Saratoga this year, making him a strong wagering choice despite no prior starts at Keeneland. Golden Tempo, trained by Cherie DeVaux and guided by Jose Ortiz, secured wins in both the 2026 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes but has not raced since a third-place finish in the Travers Stakes.

Magnitude, trained by Steve Asmussen with Flavien Prat aboard, has been formidable this year with wins in the Dubai World Cup and Stephen Foster Stakes, often leading from the front. If allowed to dictate the pace, Magnitude’s front-running style presents a significant threat in this talented field. Knightsbridge, also trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Luis Saez, brings speed and stamina from a recent Pacific Classic victory at the same distance, boasting eight wins in twelve starts and the ability to compete both on pace and late in the race.

Other notable contenders include Napoleon Solo, trained by Chad Summers with John Velazquez riding, who skipped the Kentucky Derby but has a Preakness Stakes win and solid performances in the Haskell and Travers Stakes. The Puma, fresh from a Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby win, and T O Password, the longshot with less than $1 million in earnings, face tough competition in this international showdown. The race, as the richest on North American soil, not only awards a hefty purse but also crowns the premier classic distance horse globally for 2026.
