Rubio says Trump wants to end Iran war ‘peacefully’ even as both sides prepare for strikes

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed that President Donald Trump aspires to resolve the conflict with Iran through diplomatic efforts rather than military action. Speaking on the weekend prior to the midterm elections, Rubio emphasized Trump's confidence in the U.S. military's capability to respond decisively if necessary, but stressed a preference for peaceful solutions. This statement comes amid reports that both the U.S. and Iran are preparing for potential military strikes following the November 3 midterm vote.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a stern warning, calling for the nation’s armed forces to counter any threat with immediate and unrestricted responses. He has also demanded updates to Iran's military databases to ensure all physical and non-physical assets of what he describes as the “U.S.-Zionist enemy” are within reach of Iranian forces. This rhetoric signals Tehran’s readiness to escalate military actions if provoked, further heightening tensions as the U.S. remains discreet about any official plans to resume attacks.

President Trump reinforced his stance during a Sunday interview, saying the U.S. had achieved significant victories and would soon conclude the conflict either through a strike deal or by decisively ending hostilities. Despite Trump’s emphasis on ending the war swiftly, the situation remains volatile with both sides seemingly prepared to escalate hostilities depending on developments post-election.

On a related note, Iran has declared the United Kingdom’s Military Intelligence Services a “hostile group,” accusing the Royal Navy and Air Force of supporting terrorist organizations. The Iranian foreign ministry’s designation is a response to Britain’s prior labeling of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group, and Tehran has accused the U.K. of facilitating U.S. military actions through use of British bases like RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia. This move further complicates the geopolitical landscape as tensions involving multiple international players continue to rise.
