Hollywood prop maker Freddy Schramm spent three months building a life-sized animatronic mask of the Matt Damon puppet from the 2004 film "Team America: World Police." Schramm shared the step-by-step creation process on his Instagram account and revealed the finished mask just in time for Halloween 2026. To add a creative twist, he transformed the puppet by dressing it as Odysseus, the character Damon plays in the recent Christopher Nolan film "The Odyssey," complete with an oversized helmet.

The original "Team America" movie, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, featured marionette puppetry in a style reminiscent of 1960s shows like "Thunderbirds." Among its satirical cast of puppets was a simplified version of Matt Damon, known only for saying his own name. Schramm’s work brought this puppet to life at full scale, and he shared images and videos of the costume posing at the Hollywood Walk of Fame and out on the town, generating attention and fan interest.

Schramm tagged celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel and Heidi Klum, hoping to land an appearance on Kimmel’s Halloween show and Klum’s annual Halloween party. His plans extend beyond this project—he intends to improve the Damon mask and create versions representing other notable Damon roles, including Private Ryan from "Saving Private Ryan" and astronaut Mark Watney from "The Martian." Schramm’s background includes prop and special effects work on series like "Ahsoka" and "Ironheart," making him well-suited for intricate creations.

Meanwhile, Matt Damon is currently in the spotlight with "The Odyssey" as Universal Studios launches its awards season campaign promoting him for Best Actor. Although there’s no confirmation that Damon has seen the life-sized puppet costume, he previously acknowledged the original "Team America" portrayal in a Reddit AMA as “brilliant” but somewhat confusing. Schramm’s puppet homage highlights the enduring cultural impact of both Damon’s career and the irreverent comedy of "Team America."
