Will Lucas, a serial entrepreneur from Toledo, Ohio, has launched ICON, an innovative on-demand photography marketplace designed to connect photographers with clients instantly. With previous ventures like Creadio and TolHouse in his portfolio, Lucas aims to empower creatives, especially photographers who may not fit the traditional mold of “professional,” but possess a natural talent and eye for photography. ICON was inspired by Lucas’s personal desire for a seamless way to book photographers for spontaneous moments and events.
ICON eliminates many of the typical hurdles photographers face, such as client acquisition, contract management, payment chasing, and logistical coordination. The platform allows photographers to apply by submitting their portfolio, then after approval and onboarding, they can manage their schedules, locations, and shoot preferences within the app. Photographers receive payments directly after delivering finalized photo galleries, with no revisions expected, making the process straightforward and efficient.
Booking a photographer through ICON is likened to summoning a ride via a rideshare app: clients can book in real time for a variety of occasions, from backyard birthday parties to family reunions. Sessions start at a minimum of 15 minutes, and photographers verify their assignments through a pairing code at the shoot. ICON’s model enables photographers to monetize their skills on their own terms, while clients gain quick access to quality on-demand photo services.
Currently live in Toledo and Detroit, ICON plans to expand to more cities. Photographers interested in joining can apply through the platform’s website, where ICON takes a commission from each booking, though usage is free for photographers. This marketplace leverages technology to meet a growing demand for flexible, professional photography while supporting a diverse community of creatives in monetizing their craft.
