Cabot Highlands, which joined the Cabot brand after acquiring Castle Stuart in 2022, has expanded its Scottish golf offerings with the opening of Old Petty on May 15, 2026. This new course, designed by renowned architect Tom Doak, is a walking-only links course that complements the existing Castle Stuart layout. Situated near Inverness, Old Petty offers golfers a modern yet traditional Scottish links experience, featuring firm fairways and utilizing natural land contours to enhance play and strategic ground game elements.

The course's name honors the nearby Old Petty Church, built in 1839, and it also showcases views of the 400-year-old Castle Stuart tower house. While Castle Stuart captures many of the prime coastal vistas on the property, Old Petty carves out its distinct character by routing through gently rolling terrain alongside a tidal estuary, with stretches hugging the Moray Firth coastline. Doak emphasized that the design was aimed at complementing—rather than competing with—Castle Stuart by creating a playing experience defined by natural ground movement, wind, and the firm turf typical of links golf.

Old Petty’s layout includes features like a downhill par-3 third hole passing past Castle Stuart, a Scottish bothy halfway house for refreshments, and a compelling journey to the Moray Firth coastline on the closing holes. The walking-only course allows a limited number of golf carts for those with medical certificates, and caddies are also available to assist players. The clubhouse reflects an art-deco style and offers expansive views alongside a menu focused on local Scottish cuisine, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

Located just ten minutes from Inverness airport, Cabot Highlands serves as a convenient base for exploring some of the best golf and attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
