Super Micro surges 15% on new order and margin disclosure after SpaceX announcement

Super Micro Computer's stock soared 15% after the company announced a significant revision to its expected gross margins for the fiscal fourth quarter ending in June. The server maker now anticipates its gross and adjusted gross margins to be between 15% and 17%, a substantial increase from the earlier forecast of around 8.2% to 8.4%. This upgrade is attributed mainly to a favorable shift in customer and product mix, driven by heightened demand for servers equipped with Nvidia GPUs, which are central to running artificial intelligence models.

The company revealed that it secured over $60 billion in new orders in the fiscal fourth quarter, with a backlog reaching record highs as of June 30, 2026. These orders are expected to be fulfilled over upcoming quarters, indicating strong future revenue streams. For the June quarter, Super Micro projects revenues to be at the lower end of its prior guidance range of $11 billion to $12.5 billion, slightly trailing analyst expectations of $11.67 billion. The firm plans to hold an earnings call on August 11 to provide further details.

CEO Charles Liang highlighted Super Micro’s collaboration with SpaceX and its AI-focused venture, XAI, which is now integrated as SpaceXAI following an acquisition in February. Liang expressed pride in co-creating a new Gigawatt AI datacenter for the company within a year, underlining Super Micro's role in high-profile AI infrastructure projects. This connection to SpaceX and XAI has likely contributed to investor enthusiasm and the subsequent stock price surge.

Competitors Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise also experienced gains in their share prices following Super Micro’s announcement, with Dell rising 5% and HPE up 4% in after-hours trading. This broader market response underscores the growing demand and investment interest in AI-driven server technologies across major industry players. The surge in AI-centric hardware is reinforcing the competitive landscape in data center and server markets.
