ESPN to Lay Off Karl Ravech After More Than 30 Years

ESPN is set to part ways with longtime anchor Karl Ravech after a tenure exceeding three decades, sources have revealed to Front Office Sports. Joining ESPN in 1993, Ravech built a distinguished career as a host on _SportsCenter_ and _Baseball Tonight_, before transitioning into play-by-play roles. Notably, he was the lead voice for _Sunday Night Baseball_ from 2022 until 2025 and also covered the Little League World Series. An ESPN spokesperson has declined to comment on the developments.

This layoff occurs amid a broader wave of ESPN workforce reductions initiated this summer, during which NFL analyst Ryan Clark was also impacted. These cuts align with strategic shifts following ESPN's restructured Major League Baseball broadcast agreement, which replaced its prior MLB package and resulted in a less stable baseball schedule. ESPN continues to employ other MLB commentators such as Jon "Boog" Sciambi and Mike Monaco.

The layoffs are further tied to ESPN’s recent corporate actions, including Disney’s acquisition of the NFL Network earlier in 2026, which has prompted organizational realignment. ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro communicated internally about the layoffs, providing a list of affected talent, illustrating how the network is adjusting its sports media portfolio in a competitive landscape. Other casualties of these cuts include ESPN anchor David Lloyd and analyst Stephania Bell.

Ravech’s departure signifies a notable moment within sports media, reflecting ongoing transformations in sports broadcasting rights and personnel. Having been a consistent presence at ESPN for over 30 years, his exit underscores the impact of economic pressures and evolving content strategies on veteran sports media professionals. The reshaping of ESPN’s talent roster signals continued adaptation to shifts in sports consumption and broadcasting partnerships.
