LIV Golf Returns After 47-Day Break, Facing $1.1M Lawsuit

LIV Golf is resuming competition this week in England at the JCB Golf & Country Club, marking the 10th event of its 2026 season. This return follows an unexpected 47-day gap since their last tournament in Spain from June 4-7, caused by the cancellation of the LIV Golf Louisiana event in June. Fifteen LIV players participated in the recent Open Championship, with Australian Lucas Herbert notably tying for sixth place. Despite the league’s efforts to keep the season on track, questions remain about the feasibility of completing the remaining events as planned.

Amid its return, LIV Golf is confronting a new legal challenge as Mobii Systems Group Limited, a Canadian technology partner, filed a lawsuit seeking over $1.1 million. Mobii claims LIV owes this amount due to breach of contract and unpaid invoices related to the streaming service “Any Shot, Any Time,” which Liv last utilized in early May. An email from a LIV executive in late May indicated that the league would discontinue its partnership with Mobii, which was originally contracted through the end of 2026. This adds to LIV’s ongoing legal difficulties, including a high-profile lawsuit in the U.K. seeking damages of up to $630 million for alleged idea theft.

The upcoming LIV Golf U.K. event kicks off what is expected to be a four-event run to close out the 2026 season, with subsequent tournaments scheduled in New Jersey, Indianapolis, and Michigan in August. However, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil has not guaranteed the full slate will happen, reflecting ongoing concerns about funding from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), LIV’s primary backer. O’Neil has also been notably absent from recent press conferences, with leading players like Jon Rahm stepping into the media spotlight while Bryson DeChambeau remains out of the press amid controversy over a rules violation at the Open Championship.

LIV Golf continues to navigate a precarious position with operational, legal, and financial uncertainties. The league’s search for new investors is ongoing, as funding questions and mounting lawsuits challenge its long-term viability. With only weeks left in the current season, LIV’s ability to maintain momentum and secure its future will be closely watched by industry observers and fans alike.
